Life Safety Product Company SentryLight Announces Patents for Breakthrough Design; Shares Trade on Frankfurt/Xetra Exchange (3SL)
NEWARK, Del.(BUSINESS WIRE)

SentryLight Inc. (OTC Frankfurt/Xetra: 3SL) publicly announced that its innovative products received patent approval from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The invention relates to a fully-concealed emergency light that is hidden inside the wall until an AC power failure.

With installations in eleven countries, SentryLight's innovative fixtures are penetrating the annual $1 billion emergency lighting market in the U.S., Canada, UAE and Europe.

Invented by a firefighter, the breakthrough product design is the world's only emergency light approved for installation at any height. Lower installation heights enable the product to continue to work even after smoke from a fire blocks competitors lights installed near the ceiling. Required by building codes to provide illumination during a power failure, competitive designs are prone to vandalism, forcing independent labs like UL to require installation heights above 2.5 meters. A video case study on the SentryLight website demonstrates this competitive advantage (see home page).

SentryLight designs surpass conventional designs by providing an aesthetic solution for architects, a reliable solution for engineers and an affordable solution for building owners. For building occupants, the result is an increased ability to exit a building during an emergency, reducing injuries or even death.

"We invented SentryLight to save lives. With the tragedy at the World Trade Center and the 9/11 Commission's findings, architects, engineers and building owners around the world are more aware of the need to place emergency lights lower, below the smoke in a fire. The U.S. and international patents protect our intellectual property and build value for our shareholders," commented Brian Corbett, Fire Chief, Inventor and President of SentryLight.

Marriott and University of Delaware Select SentryLight for
Hotel Room of the Future

Newark/Delaware//USA, April 20, 2008 — The U.S. based company SentryLight, Inc. announces that the joint venture between Marriott and the University of Delaware, called the eXperimantal Guest Room, has installed their innovative concealed emergency lighting inside the hotel room.

Emergency Light in Hotel RoomThis marks the first move by the hospitality industry to increase life-safety features inside the hotel room, going beyong required code that mandates emergency lighting in hallways and stairs.

After listening to guests concerned about waking up in a strange room that’s pitch black due to a power failure, Associate Professor Dr. Cobanoglu decided to seek a solution: bringing emergency lighting inside the guest room. After researching emergency lighting, Dr. Cobanoglu contacted Brian Corbett at SentryLight.

According to Cihan: "Continually improving guest satisfaction is paramount in our industry. Placing a critical life-safety feature inside the guest room simply makes sense."

Travelers who love the latest gizmos and gadgets might want to check out the many innovative features in the hotel's new eXperimental Guestroom.

According to Adam Lilien, Chief Marketing Officer of SentryLight, "This represents a significant opportunity for SentryLight. The world wide market for emergency lighting in the hotel room is totally untapped. As the world's only design that can be installed at any height, even below the smoke that builds up in a fire, SentryLight is proud to be part of this effort to provide increased guest safety."

Launched in September as part of Shaner Hotels' Experimental Guestroom of the Future project, the X-Room is both fun and functional thanks to futuristic amenities researched by Dr. Cihan Cobanoglu, Associate Professor of Hospitality Information Technology at the University of Delaware's Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management Department.

SentryLight Launches International Branding Campaign

SentryLIght Advertising ArtTo introduce SentryLight emergency lighting products directly to the primary decision makers — architects, engineers and lighting specifiers — full page ads were placed in several key publications:

  • American Institute of Architects official magazine: Architectural Record
  • McGraw Hill Product News and Green Source
  • Contract Lighting
  • Consulting Specifying Engineer

The full page ads (see image on right) were created based on input from the world renowned marketer Donny Deutsch, creator of the Deutsch Advertising Agency and host of TV show The Big Idea.

Architectural Record Feb 2008 GreenSource Feb 2008Contract Lighting Feb 2008Consult Spec Engineer March 2008The ads reached more than 120,000 architects and more than 85,000 engineers and lighting specifiers in over 10 countries. Hundreds of leads have been generated and are in the sales process. Specific leads have been received from Dubai, Paris, UK, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and many other countries. Overall response, measured as click throughs to the www.SentryLight.com website and leads generated through inquiries for more information, was higher than industry averages. SentryLight staff have received numerous requests for specifying information into substantial projects that are in the design phase. Sales from the effort have already begun, and are expected to peak in approximately 90 to 120 days based upon industry design/build time frames.

The World's Safest Emergency Light
Conventional "bug eye" emergency lights, with their battery mounted to the outside of the wall and two spot lights mounted on top, are prone to vandalism. This is why the independent testing labs (such as UL and CE) require installation height above eight feet... away from easy reach and increased vandalism. The problem is that this is where emergency lights are quickly obscurred from smoke from a fire; exactly at the time where emergency lights are needed most.

Experts have long known that the installation height of emergency lighting needs to be lowered to increase occupant safety. In fire safety drills in public schools, children are taught to get close to the floor during a fire... below the smoke where there is fresh arir. Los Angeles has already lowered the installation height of exit signs to within 24 inches of the floor. New York City is reviewing exit sign installation heights, and there is legislation in Belgium considering the same for Europe.

Given the vandal-resistant and ADA-compliant design features of SentryLight, Underwriters Laboratories recent removal of the minimal 8' installation height makes this the world's first -- and only -- emergency light approved for installation at any height. We recently visited some of the world's largest architecture, lighting specification and engineering firms in Chicago and New York City. Reaction was universal: when they consider the benefits of lower installation heights and the concealed design that is paintable, they indicate that they will switch their specification for upcoming projects to SentryLight emergency lighting.

SentryLight is working with code specification writers to consider lowering emergency lighting installation heights.

Deploying The Latest Marketing Strategies
To secure orders in eleven countries around the world, SentryLight has deployed sophisticated direct marketing strategies that target Architects, Lighting Designers, Construction Companies, and Electrical Distributors. The approach optimizes the intersection of three disciplines: Direct Marketing, Database Management, and Behavioral Sciences. Through this approach, emails, postcards, and dimensional packages can be sent directly to the purchase decision makers at the specific time that design specifications are being made. Communication maps addressing the benefits of SentryLight's innovative design are overlayed with specific barriers to adopting new product designs for each audience through a sophisticated database engine. Incentives are then used for qualifying purchases... a FREE iPod, for example, upon payment of the first order.

Under the consultation of Mr. Lilien, SentryLight's Chief Marketing Officer, this marketing approach is currently being used successfully by one of the world's largest manufacturers of cell phones, scanning, and wireless router devices in Europe, Asia, North America, and Eastern Europe.

Sales are conducted through a combination of OEM relationships, specification by Architects and Lighting Designers, sales through manufacturer’s representatives and electrical distributors, and direct sales through Google Adwords.
